The Benjamin Sweater Range is directly inspired by the titan of American sportswear fashion history; the sweatshirt. The first crewneck sweatshirt was developed and manufactured in 1926 by American Football player Benjamin Russell Jr, whose father happened to own a clothing company. The sweatshirt was introduced as a practice jersey, offering a more comfortable and cooler alternative to the woolen sports clothing that only existed at that time. Interestingly, the traditional sweatshirt design led to a further development and the 'hoodie' sweatshirt was born in the 1930s.By 1930 the sweatshirt was used as the preferred outergarment for athletes, with cotton being the favoured fabric for sportswear.Like the t-shirt, the sweatshirt became a platform for branding and statements to be printed and embroidered, so by the end of the 20th century it had transformed into the fashion garment by the various design fashion houses and this continues today. It is with this history in mind that our sweatshirts have been developed and created in four colourways. We have chosen to make our sweaters from 100% organic rungspun cotton, ribbed crewneck collar, cuffs and waistband. With the modern fit, our sweaters offer an incredibly comfortable and sustainable addition to your wardrobe.Deliberately discreet, the Stanley Biggs Fox is expertly embroidered in a matching cotton and sits on the left breast.
